The Age of Innocence
It's interesting how once in a while a book so captures you that you find yourself carried away to another place!
So I unexpectedly found myself after a not-out of the ordinary start to The Age of Innocence (Edith Wharton). The ending leaves one in complete... - what? - I cannot say - despair, disbelief,... can't find the words to describe the feeling.
Musings on what could have been, can be so alluring yet often have the unfortunate effect of leaving one oblivious of what is and could be.
One feeling that I can describe, is the rare insight and respect for those that have gone before us. How little we really understand the depth of feeling past and present, that lies within them! That in our preoccupation with self, passes us by - yet remains an undercurrent running within all around us!
